Brianca Wright

Impact Director and Co-Founder

Our Impact Director and Co-Founder Brianca Wright is also a graduate of Florida State University with a dual degree in Psychology and Criminology. Brianca aspires to be a psychologist for minority youth after seeing how a close friend’s mental stability was neglected once he entered the criminal justice system. After graduation, Brianca moved to Jacksonville, Florida to serve in a Title I high school as an academic and behavior interventionist with an educational nonprofit. Upon completing her service year, Brianca spent a year working with the Guardian ad Litem program. This state agency advocates in children’s best interest when they are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Brianca served as the children’s voice in court and ensured the child’s wishes and best interest were always kept at the forefront. As a masters student at The George Washington University, Brianca studied Education and Human Development and conducted research on the effectiveness of RULER (Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions) as a social-emotional learning approach in elementary schools. Currently, Brianca is a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at Howard University. It is her mission to change the narrative of black children in America by improving assessment and intervention strategies for discipline of youth in schools and juvenile justice systems. She acknowledges the correlation between the weaknesses in our criminal justice system and the shortcomings within the education system and uses this to fuel her. The current disciplinary practices used in both institutions do not promote environments for growth and limits students’ potential and academic performance. As an avid leader and firm advocate for the growth of our youth, Brianca Wright continues to invest her time and skills in the potential of our future and the young generations who will lead it.
